For
many youth, the academic arena presents challenges and obstacles,
which seem nearly impossible to overcome, especially when dealing
with the added burden of substance abuse.
Drugs and alcohol
infiltrate many types of educational facilities including public
and private schools. Students who have done
well in the past may
suddenly seem like they no longer care about their studies or school
performance. Dropping grades and missed
classes may result in alienation
from their teachers, under-achievement, academic failure, school
suspensions, frustrated parents, and students who are seemingly
outcast from the regular classroom setting and educational system.
Approach
Academics are not put on hold while participating in treatment.
At the Venture Academy, individualized
educational plans are developed with the students based on student needs and records from schools previously attended (as supplied by parents). The
students' capabilities, learning potential and educational objectives
are taken into consideration when identifying course and subject
material, i.e. university entrance, technical school acceptance
and work force prerequisites.
Venture Academy offers students material and individualized learning
environments designed according to their strengths, needs, preferences,
interests and abilities. Our skilled and caring teachers specialize in teaching youth with learning challenges and students who have been who have not recently been succesful in a traditional educational setting.
