Venture Academy utilizes the knowledge and experience of an identified Clinical Team in terms of support to Venture Academy clients and staff in each operating region. The Clinical Team members provide hands on client intervention, case consultation and program development support. Each team member demonstrates a prominent level of expertise pertaining to youth issues in their identified field of practice. Some bios below - more coming soon:

Carl Malmsten, M.A., R.C.C.
Clinical Therapist
Carl received his undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Alberta and subsequently his Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology. Carl brings a breadth of experience and professional expertise including working directly with youth in a residential setting. Carl also has experience working with psychiatric clients both directly and in a consulting capacity and counselling in private practice. Carl's approach is solutions oriented and strength based while at the same time it is emotionally focused and emphasizes emotional self awareness, self acceptance and the role of secure attachment in individual maturation and adjustment. He is known for his warm, genuine and collaborative approach, for his personal integrity and professionalism and skill in supporting clients through processes of self awareness and change.

Louise Beard
Team Leader
Louise has extensive training and education in Trauma and Addiction counselling, receiving certifications from University of Alberta, Hincks Dellcrest Institute, Centre for Addictions and Mental Health, and is a certified Life Skills Mentor and Coach. For over 15 years Louise has worked in diverse environments including the Department of National Defence and youth services programs. Through assessment, Louise identifies client issues/challenges and provides empathetic emotional support as well as focused addiction and mental health interventions. Louise achieves success with resistant youth through a client-centered approach, focusing on developmental assets and attachment styles leading to positive changes for the youth. Louise works closely with Venture Academy youth and families to ensure measurable success for all. Louise is an energetic, empathic and skilled counsellor.
