Fentanyl Use Disorder: How It Happens

Fentanyl is an opioid 100 times stronger than morphine. It is highly effective at treating pain, but its potency also makes it likely to cause dependence.

Fentanyl works as other opioids do, affecting the opioid receptors in the body, including those in the areas of the brain that control emotions, breathing, pain, and pleasure.

The most common effects of fentanyl on the body include:

  • Euphoria
  • Drowsiness
  • Dizziness
  • Confusion
  • Concentration problems
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Constipation

Even after just one or two uses, fentanyl can put your child at risk of developing breathing difficulties.

The brain adapts to the drug, diminishing its effects and making it difficult for teens and young adults to experience pleasure from anything other than the drug. This can lead them to take larger amounts of fentanyl, putting them at risk of overdosing.

To break the cycle of a substance use disorder, it is essential to begin a rehab program. But what is fentanyl rehab?

What Is Fentanyl Rehab?

At Venture Academy, we offer fentanyl rehab programs for teens and young adults that can help them get on the path to sobriety again.

Youth Detox Services

One of the first steps your child has to take is to detox from fentanyl. Because withdrawal symptoms can be powerful, it is never a good idea for anyone to detox on their own.

Our fentanyl drug rehab program offers medical detoxification that lets your child go through withdrawal in a safe environment where they will receive 24/7 monitoring.

Our staff of experts is there to adjust medications and keep your child comfortable during this first stage of treatment.

30-Day Assessment and Intervention

Most of the teens and young adults who struggle with a substance use disorder can benefit from our 30-day assessment, intervention services, and fentanyl drug rehab program. It offers careful monitoring at our facilities, where we focus on the behavioural issues that can be affecting your child.

By providing individual therapy sessions using behavioural therapies, we can help your child work through the underlying cause of the substance use disorder, including dealing with other mental health conditions.

We also offer the chance for your child to see that they are not alone. Group therapy makes that possible, helping them recognise that there are others facing addiction and mental illnesses and allowing them to start building healthier relationships and a strong support system.

Our 30-day assessment and intervention program offers help to the entire family. It allows the family to stabilise, especially after the crisis that might have led to reaching out for help, while also providing education on substance use disorders and family counselling sessions.

After these 30 days, we can work with your whole family to determine whether longer treatment is the right option. In most cases, it is. The length of further treatment can vary, with some teens and young adults requiring up to six months of care.
